Lincoln Park Main Street Presents:
Regina Belle in a Gospel Explosion!
This event features Grammy®-award-winner Regina Belle, and Steller® award winner Jonathan Nelson and will also showcase the talent and anointing of three (3) local choirs in Saint Lucie County who will vie for prizes up to $1,000.00.
Four-time GRAMMY®-winning R&B/Pop songstress Regina Belle has a unique story. Even as the New Jersey native rode high in the urban charts throughout the '80s and'90s with such urban classics as "Baby Come to Me," "Make It Like It Was" and "What Goes Around," faith, churchgoing, and gospel music remained at the very core of her life in the spotlight.
A precocious singer since a young age, Belle launched her music career with a bang when, as an 8-year-old, she performed her first church solo—a take-no-prisoners rendition of the gospel standard "Don't Drive Your Mama Away," originally by none other than Shirley Caesar, one of Belle's early influences. Such was Belle's talent that, by age 12, the budding songbird had her first professional gig, and, come high school, she received a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. At Rutgers University, she became the first female vocalist with the school's jazz ensemble. Belle's musical influences include Phyllis Hyman, Billie Holiday, Donny Hathaway, and Nancy Wilson.
Today, Belle is a pastor's wife and minister of music at New Shield of Faith Ministries in Atlanta, where her husband, John S. Battle III, is senior pastor.
Multi-Stellar Award winner Jonathan Nelson is one of the brightest young faces in contemporary praise and worship music. Over the last few years, he's put his stamp on urban praise music as the composer of now classic tunes such as Donald Lawrence's "Healed," Youth for Christ's #1 smash "The Struggle Is Over," and Bishop T.D. Jake's "My Praise Is My Weapon." Then, in 2008, Nelson stepped from behind the shadows to reveal himself to be a charming worship leader with his Top 10 smash "My Name Is Victory" which spent an astounding 65 weeks on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart and won him a Dove Award nomination as Best New Artist of the Year.
Bishop Clarence Ingram, Pastor of Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church will be the master of ceremonies for the first half of the program.
Then, after intermission, Fort Pierce Native, Lerel Frederick Jr. Founder of "Zoe Live" will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Lerel has been delighting audiences with his talent since the age of five. Lerel studied Music Industry Management at the University of Miami and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Business from Clayton State University. During his life-long music career, he has accompanied performers such as Liza Minnelli, Kirk Franklin, Aretha Franklin, Shirley Caesar, Babbi Mason, Patti Austin, Chaka Kahn, Anne Nesby, Dionne Warwick, Queen Latifah and Akon. He has written songs for elite gospel recording artist such as The Anointed Pace Sisters, Daryl Coley, Richard Smallwood, Edwin Hawkins, Anne Nesby and Babbi Mason. Currently Lerel is the Minister of Music at World Changers Church New York, under the leadership of Dr. Creflo A. Dollar.
The night will begin with performances from 3 local choirs, all vying for prizes up to $1,000.00; a selection by Jonathan Nelson; ending with Regina Belle, who will perform songs from her new release, "Make Me An Example". Belle will be accompanied by the Treasure Coast Performing Arts Choir for one song as they make their debut performance at the Sunrise Theatre.
