About Us
Rising Stars, Concert Legends, Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Members, Grammy Winners, Comedy Superstars and Special Events of all kinds, for over 16 years the Sunrise Theatre has been the Treasure Coast’s #1 destination for live entertainment.
Fort Pierce has always been an epicenter of culture. Among Zora Neale Hurston, A.E. Backus, and the Florida Highway Men as bastions of the arts, stands the Sunrise Theatre.
Opened in 1923, the Sunrise Theatre was the largest theatre between Jacksonville and Miami at the time of it’s grand opening.
The design of this intimate 1,200-seat theatre offers guests both resonant sound and spectacular views, with no seat further than 85 feet from the incredible talents that grace our center stage.
Restored in 2006, the Sunrise Theatre’s location in historic downtown Fort Pierce also offers guests an evening out with convenient and well-lit parking.
With over 100 acts a year, the Sunrise Theatre is proud to have hosted Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame members, Grammy Winners, movie and TV stars, Tony Award winners, and so many more phenomenal acts.
From our friendly and caring staff to our storied history, to our unique location less than 2 miles from the Fort Pierce Marina, the Sunrise Theatre is an unforgettable experience for our patrons.
Mission Statement
The Sunrise's History
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sunrise opened its doors on August 1, 1923 as the largest theatre on Florida’s East Coast between Jacksonville and Miami. It quickly became the center of all St. Lucie County’s cultural activities. The theatre closed its doors on September 8, 1983 , due to the decline of the downtown area and a refusal to convert to multi-screen operation. In 1988, Main Street Fort Pierce was established and soon realized the need for the Sunrise Theatre as a center for local, national and international world class performing arts presentations.
Main Street Fort Pierce began an effort to save the historic theatre. In 1997, the Sunrise Theatre was purchased by the St. Lucie Preservation Association, Inc. and today, after reopening on January 6, 2006, the theatre is completely renovated to its original splendor with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems and is owned and operated by the City of Fort Pierce.
100 events per year…something for everyone…and the friendliest staff among any venue in the region… you’re invited to discover the Sunrise Theatre for incredible guest experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
